Gossip Girl is getting a reboot, and the production has already started. We're unpacking everything you need to know about this 2.0 version of the Upper East Siders young elite.
Fasten your seat beats, Gossip Girls is debuting in a few months but the spin-off of the 2000s hit show is taking a new form with new faces and dramas.
Because we're living in the age of social media celebrities and influencers, the new version of Gossip Girl takes its shape to tell stories around that social media world. The show has been secretly guarded and the producers don't want to reveal much — on purpose.
But what can we know so far?
"Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."
Joshua Safran, screenwriter
The new version of Gossip Girl is due in July 2021 and even though there's not much information revealed to the public yet, at least we have cast names and their roles.
HBO Max PR team shared some exclusive insights with Cosmopolitan. Whitney Peak plays Zoya Lott — the Dan Humphrey of the group — Audrey, played by Emily Alyn Lind a posh student at Constance whose mother is an athleisure designer.
Skater and model Evan Mock plays Akeno "Aki" Menzies. Aki and Audrey have been dating for a long time and her BFF is is teen influencer Julien, played by Jordan Alexander.
Apparently, the new Chuck Bass is Max Wolfe, who Thomas Doherty plays — and described as "libertine" by Cosmopolitan.
Joining the team, we also have Zión Moreno, who plays Luna La and Monet, by Savannah Smith. Adding more to the 2.0 version, we have Otto "Obie" Bergmann IV, a "rich do-gooder and German import." And finally, to wrap up the team, Tavi Gevinson plays Kate Keller, a mysterious character.
Although we'd love to see a revival, the original cast of Gossip Girl, including the iconic Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf aren't expected to be on the show, but let's hope the producers will change their minds some time, right?
