The 'Gossip Girl' Reboot Teaser Is Out

XOXO, Gossip Girl. These words, made famous by the hit 2000s CW teen show, launched the careers of Penn Badgely, Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, and more. Years after the original, HBO Max is set to air a series reboot to a Gen Z audience.


The drama is based on Cecily von Ziegesar's books following the lives of rich and famous prep school teens in New York's Upper Eastside. However, their lives are always under the watchful eye of the mysterious Gossip Girl, who is one click away from posting their secrets to the public.

Full plot details are limited. However, original cast member Kristen Bell who voiced the infamous Gossip Girl is set to return. Now HBO max has dropped a teaser trailer for the reboot, and here is everything we know so far.

What Is The New Gossip Girl About?


The creators of the original series are signed on to helm the revival. The concept of the mysterious Gossip girl remains the same. However, the current social media and online landscape have changed, including social media and online privacy.

"The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."


The story world is set eight years after the Gossip Girl website went down. Now a new generation of private school teens is introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl, and their story will play out in 10 hour-long episodes.

Will The Original Cast Return?


Only Kristen Bell has so far returned to reprise her role as the Gossip Girl narrator. Previous cast members have had mixed opinions about returning. Cast members like Chace Crawford have intimated that they would love to make a cameo.

Moreover, Blake Lively has admitted she would love to return but would not sign on for a lengthy reboot. There is still no word that she will return. However, fans can expect that none of the original cast members will return as parents of the new cast.

So who are the newbies at Constance Billard and St. Jude? Writer Joshua Safran who wrote and executive produced the original show, admitted that while it was not diverse, expect a change. The leads of the show include people of color and people with different sexual orientations.

Rounding out the main cast is Emily Alyn Lind, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Zión Moreno, Tavi Gevinson, Savannah Smith, Evan Mock, Jordan Alexander, who play fresh characters. However, fans of the show can draw similarities between their character descriptions and the characters of the previous cast.

Also back for the series is the original costume designer, Eric Daman, so even if our beloved Upper East Siders are in Uniform, so much of their glamour is intact.

When is the Release Date of The Gossip Girls Reboot?

The pandemic did delay the show. However, the writers used the time to focus on the script. According to HBO, the pilot script has been described as 'very good.' Production began on November 2 in New York, and the show is set to air on July 8, 2021.
