5 Skin Care Habits That Don't Belong In 2021
While preparing your skincare routine for 2021, make sure you consider the don'ts that are not worth carrying along, like touching your face, sleeping on your face wash ritual, and ignoring your moisturizer.
If 2020 has taught us anything, we must be gentle with ourselves and take our skincare regime seriously. The more time we have spent in quarantine, the more in tune we have become with our bodies, taking out time to understand what works or doesn't work for us.
It can be overwhelming to tend to our beauty care with the same enthusiasm, but taking baby steps is the key. Here are the five skincare habits we should all consider leaving behind as we enter the new year.
Constantly Touching Your Skin

We know this is one of the most challenging habits to get rid of, simply because we unintentionally do it most of the time. If you're someone who likes to rest their hand on their face, especially the chin and the cheeks, become more mindful and try to avoid it.
Touching our face can lead to germs, bacteria, and allergens getting transferred from our hands, resulting in acne and breakouts. It can also annoy the already irritated areas, and pimple spots, making them worse.
Forgetting To Wash Your Face Before Sleeping

Okay, yes, we are all tired when night falls, and rushing to our beds seems like a logical solution. However, just like you don't forget to brush your teeth after dinner, washing your face at night is equally important.
Water helps remove impurities, dirt, and excess oil from your skin, and it also soothes irritated and sensitive spots. Another thing to keep in mind is never going to sleep with your makeup on, as it will clog your pores and weigh down on your skin.
Avoiding The Area Below The Chin

You might have noticed that when you get a professional facial done from a spa or salon, they make sure to target the area below your chin and even your back. But when things are left in our hands, we look for quick fixes and only give our face all the attention.
It is imperative to be gentle with all of your skin because it is also susceptible to dryness, acne, blemishes, and other skin irritations. Please make sure you're applying skincare products on the ignored spots, too, to achieve uniformity and maximum results.
Following The Same Skin Care Routine In All Seasons

One of the most common mistakes we make is using the same products for our skin all year round. It's just like wearing the same colored clothes every day or not updating our closet even when the weather changes.
Your skincare schedule in winters will differ from that in summers, and also for the other seasons. Make sure you moisturize your skin to keep the skin barrier intact during the winters. A facial mist or toner might do the trick during summers.
Ditching Exfoliation

Exfoliation is one of the most ignored steps in our skincare routine. The majority of people tend to do away with it because they rely on the skin's natural process of shedding away the dead cells and making room for new ones.
However, it is essential to note that our dead skin shedding mechanism also slows down as we grow up. Hence, exfoliating your skin can help clarify the pores by removing impurities and excess oil and even do away with the dead skin for a more transparent, radiant look.
