The books were successfully adapted into eight high-grossing movies, which were able to make an estimated $8 billion worldwide. Fantastic Beasts, a hit prequel spin-off for the franchise, has also gathered fame from the audience, with its third installment to be released in 2022.

Another backlash came for Johnny Depp, who starred as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films. He had to leave the franchise after losing a case against The Sun, which reported that he was allegedly involved in domestic violence against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
