The news of a probable Harry Potter TV show has come as a breath of fresh air for the Potterheads. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max might be the home for the new streaming series.

Anyone who has grown up reading and watching Harry Potter would know how heavy it was to wave goodbye to the global phenomenon. Even after all these years, fans go crazy whenever they come across any news remotely linked to the franchise.

Now with the possibility of a brand new HP tv series in the works, questions related to the script and casting are likely to pop up. Here is everything we know about the upcoming Harry Potter TV Show so far.

HP TV Series On HBO Max

The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news of a Harry Potter live-action tv adaptation at HBO Max. While the show is still in its early phase of development, discussions are underway to find potential writers and cast members for the series.

So far, no particular writer or actors are said to be associated with the new streaming series. When asked to provide further details on the HP TV Series, both HBO Max and Warner Bros. denied the news of a series in development.

HP Franchise - A Global Success

The Harry Potter franchise has been a global phenomenon for a very long time, garnering sheer praise and love from the fans. The seven books in the HP series have sold as many as 500 million copies across the world.

The books were successfully adapted into eight high-grossing movies, which were able to make an estimated $8 billion worldwide. Fantastic Beasts, a hit prequel spin-off for the franchise, has also gathered fame from the audience, with its third installment to be released in 2022.

Controversies Linked To The Franchise

There have been many controversies that affected the Harry Potter Wizarding World over time. One such controversy came from the writer of the series, J.K. Rowling, for her anti-trans stance, which was even condemned by the star cast, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Another backlash came for Johnny Depp, who starred as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films. He had to leave the franchise after losing a case against The Sun, which reported that he was allegedly involved in domestic violence against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Other Shows On HBO Max

WarnerMedia is clearly working on expanding its streaming service, HBO Max, by opting for brilliant series to stay in the competition. HBO Max launched in 2020 and has already become the home for DC films, spin-off tv shows and original series as well.

Many hit shows from the past have also been brought to HBO Max to garner an increased audience base. Among these, the most notable names include Game of Thrones, Friends, Gossip Girl and Sex and the City.

Where To Stream HP Films

The rights for the entire HP franchise are controlled by J.K. Rowling. In 2016, NBC Universal struck a deal with Warner Bros. to gain broadcast, cable and streaming rights to the Wizarding World phenomenon.

As a part of the deal, the Harry Potter Films streamed for a short while on HBO Max. All the eight films will finally return to NBC Universal’s streamer, Peacock, some time later this year.
