Diamonds are indeed a girl’s best friend. I have never met a diamond that I didn’t like. I have also never met a diamond that I can afford though. All things sparkly and gorgeous seem to come with a hefty price tag.

However, there’s a new kid on the block and she’s shaking things up. A gem that is ten times less expensive than a diamond? Where do I sign up?! All I want is to look expensive without actually being expensive.

Moissanite is the new gem that may act as a diamond replacement on the market that is here to show that you can truly have anything you want for the right price.

Moissanite is a gemstone that was found in the stars many years ago and after years of trials, scientists have finally found a way to synthesize the formula in a lab, therefore making moissanite a lab-created gemstone. Moissanite is not a fake diamond, but it is the closest gemstone to a diamond.

While moissanite is not a fake diamond, it does share most of a diamond’s qualities without an untrained eye being able to tell the difference between the two at first glance. This is why moissanite is making such waves in the jewelry industry. You can distinguish moissanite from a diamond by looking at key details. However, moissanite does test very similar to a diamond.

Moissanite and diamonds share many common traits; inducing durability, brilliance, and a woman’s love for jewelry. The only place that these two compounds seem to differ is in color reflection and price.

A diamond is placed at 10 on the Mohs scale and moissanite is placed at 9.25-9.5 on the Mohs scale. This means that just like a diamond, your moissanite will not chip or change its color at any time.

Moissanite displays the same sort of brilliance that a diamond does, but the light that it reflects is slightly different from that of a diamond. A diamond reflects a white light when there is light upon it while moissanite reflects rainbow-colored light when there is light upon it.

Moissanite can be set into any arrangement that a diamond can be and it will be ten times cheaper because it can be made in a lab and is not naturally occurring. However, when shopping for moissanite do not settle for a stone that has visible imperfections simply because of the price point.

You can find excellent quality moissanite at an extremely reasonable price, so don’t let the price make you settle for less than what you can get. Shop around and find the best option for you before you commit to anything.

The Bottom Line

Moissanite is the new kid on the block and there are sure to be many more discoveries about the compound, especially since it is being manufactured in a lab. There may be several new variants of moissanite in years to come.

In the meantime, however, it is an excellent alternative to a diamond if you cannot afford, or simply can’t be bothered to pay the exorbitant prices that come along with a diamond. The quality is almost exactly the same and the price point is wonderfully different.
