The scent of coffee is good enough to wake you up in the morning and get you ready for the day ahead. It’s a breakfast staple some of us can’t live without, and now people are making their coffee bulletproof for extra energy throughout the day!
For some of us, mornings would be incomplete without a coffee because it gives us the wake-up call we need at those ungodly hours. But people are starting to use coffee as a way to replace their meals!
It’s called bulletproof coffee, and it’s not because it makes you invincible! Here’s all you need to know about bulletproof coffee.
What Is It?
Bulletproof coffee is coffee made with butter and oil. It’s high in calories and fats that are supposed to give you the energy to start your day.
People following low-carb or keto diets have bulletproof coffee as a breakfast replacement. So instead of having cereal or a slice of toast, they’re drinking their breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and without it, your day may not go very well. And the promise of bulletproof coffee intends to give you everything you need at breakfast with your morning coffee!
It’s super creamy and looks quite similar to a latte. So how do you make this breakfast in a mug?
How Do You Make It?
You start by brewing a cup of coffee from some freshly ground beans. Then in a blender, add your coffee with a tablespoon of MCT, which is a healthy fat found either in palm kernel oil or coconut oil.
Add a tablespoon or two of unsalted butter. You can choose to use a dairy alternative butter too. Blitz it all together and enjoy your breakfast in a mug!
What Are The Benefits?
When following a low-carb diet like the keto diet, your body has to use fats as energy sources rather than carbs. So to give yourself the energy, you need a bulletproof coffee!
There are also tons of benefits tied to the coffee itself! Coffee is loaded with antioxidants, and it helps improve your mental focus and alertness!
What Are The Down Sides?
Bulletproof coffee is supposed to be a meal replacement; however, it’s not safe to survive on nothing but liquids every morning. So you’ll need to make substitutes for the nutrients you’re not getting in your cup of coffee.
Having two tablespoons of butter in the morning contains more saturated fats than the American Heart Association recommends. Unfortunately, butter also increases your cholesterol levels, and both high levels of cholesterol and saturated fats put you at risk for heart disease!
You can still enjoy your bulletproof coffee, but you should do so in moderation! It might be a delicious breakfast, but it’s one you have to wary of!
