The Golden Globes were looking mighty different this year. First, none of the nominees were allowed to attend. Also, it was hosted by a slew of presenters in other locations. Last, there were fewer looks on the red carpet.

Yes, the pandemic has altered many things, including star gazing at the Golden Globes. A time where the last thing on our mind was a contagious disease. However, like many places around the world, the Globes improvised.

One of the few presenters in attendance was Globes nominee and winner, Awkwafina, and what an appearance it was. The multi-talented actress showed up in brilliant 70s inspired maxi dress, making it one of the glamorous events’ striking looks.

Awkwafina sported a pair of sky-high heels with a super thick platform to match her look as well as a medium volume side-part hairstyle. Side parts have strangely made headlines recently after Gen Z’s stated they hate the style.

However, Akwafina wore the style proudly as she took to the red carpet. Marcus Francis, the creator behind the hairstyle, expressed that he was inspired to match the fullness of hair during the 70s.

"[I] wanted Awkwafina's hair to embody the fullness and body women styled their hair during that era."

The actress was the perfect model as she embraced her throwback style in a sparkly Gucci number. The gown featured sequined stripes in copper, pale pink, and soft yellow. The dress also played up the funky style with a beige tulle hem and puff sleeves.

The statement look is not a first for the star who enjoys pushing boundaries. On the day of her glorious win for “The Farewell,” Awkwafina wore a Victorian-inspired look. The star sported a Dior tuxedo with ruffles, topping off the look with a gold lip.

Like many of us, Awkwafina also wished for better times. On January 5, the star posted an image of the look, adding her disbelief her win happened a year ago. She also recognized that the world has since changed.

The world has indeed changed, but stars still pulled out all the stops for their appearance. Even as they tuned in through video, celebrities sported thigh-high slits and backless gowns. Remember the nights out we too could do so freely?

Best Looks of The Night

Green was the stand-out color as Anya Taylor Joy, and Cynthia Erivio had our jaws down to the floor in contrasting one-of-a-kind dresses. Taylor-Joy served her signature high fashion gaze in an emerald green dress while Erivio played up the fun in neon green.

The waists were also out on display, making us reconsider our will with our at-home workouts. Lily Collins stunned in a paisley print Saint Laurent, while Kiersey Clemons had us tongue-tied with a drop-dead gorgeous Prabal Gurung.

We were still in our lived pajamas with soup stains when Satchel Lee, Angela Basset, and Eiza González threw their thigh-high slits at us. It was uncalled for. We were not prepared to be in the presence of all these queens.
