Jennifer Lawrence on Movement and Her Honest, Imperfect Approach to Wellness
Jennifer Lawrence doesn't have a flawless wellness routine, and she's not pretending to. In a new interview with Vogue, the actress talks candidly about rethinking movement in her mid-30s, the health claims she takes at face value, and where she draws the line entirely.
Jennifer Lawrence has a refreshingly honest take on wellness culture: she doesn't always believe it, but she doesn't always ignore it either.

In a candid interview with Vogue at the new Dior Spa Cipriani in Venice, she opened up about her approach to wellness and fitness, after enjoying five hours of pampering, which includes a multi-step facial and a massage.
The Dior fashion and beauty ambassador revealed how her approach to fitness has shifted from structured workout classes to building more movement into her everyday routine. “I’ve realized now that I’m in my mid-30s, I’ll do a workout class, but that’s like 45 minutes, an hour, and that’s really kind of all I’m moving,” she explained. “I kind of need more movement in my day-to-day.”

One way she's doing that is by biking around New York, but not with an electric bike. And when she’s not filming, Lawrence turns to yoga, her preferred form of exercise, because it gives her the structure she says she wouldn't otherwise stick to with a personal trainer.
“If I have a trainer, I’ll just manipulate them and end up talking the whole time,” she said, adding, "I didn't use to think of yoga as a workout, but it is.” Lawrence clarified, though, that hot yoga is off limits to her because it can trigger her melasma.

Lawrence, who just recently joined Instagram, was also honest about how she processes information about wellness that she sees online, quick to believe the advice without digging deeper.
She cites one claim she read that skipping breakfast before working out can spike cortisol levels in women. The actress, who says she would normally just have coffee in the morning and candy “or something horrible” in the afternoon, admitted, “I just took that at face value.”
That tendency to take things at face value shows up again when it comes to vitamin C. She said she used to believe it could help her skin, but now she doubts that it’s true. “Because I heard that it’s fake,” she said. “So that’s over for me.”

In other cases, Lawrence relies on simpler alternatives, like putting olive oil on her face when she doesn't have time for her usual morning wash.
As much as Lawrence is open to trying new things, there are wellness trends she will never jump on, specifically naming drinking clay and raw milk.
Elsewhere in the interview, Lawrence shared her travel habits that contribute to her rest and recovery. This includes disconnecting her Wi-Fi, something she said was especially meaningful to her since having children. Offline time is when she gets her quiet time.
For Lawrence, movement, rest, and disconnection are priorities. Like many, she’s still finding her way to the perfect routine, trying new things and ditching others. It is her honest, imperfect attempt at a healthy way of life.
