The makeup routine that worked for you at 25 isn't necessarily working against you now, it's just outdated for the skin you have today. Here's what you need to know,

One of the natural effects of aging is dulling of the skin. As you age, your skin loses collagen and elastin, resulting in less firmness, visible lines, and slower cell turnover. Because mature skin also produces less natural oil and hyaluronic acid, it becomes dry.

Makeup can be tricky at this stage, but there are adjustments you can make to work with your aging skin. Here’s what you can do.

Rethink Your Base

It’s time to retire those matte, long-lasting, heavy powder bases, which seep into fine lines and contribute to further dryness. Look for lightweight, hydrating formulas instead, with a dewy finish. You can also use a hydrating primer underneath to help keep products in place longer.

Go Easy on Concealer

Think less is more in this case. Instead of applying concealer around the eyes, only target the areas with darkness and discoloration, then blend it into the rest of the surrounding skin. Too much concealer emphasizes texture, and you want to hide that.

Choose Cream Over Powder

Cream products are generally kinder to mature skin, so ditch the powder. Cream blush and bronzer melt into skin more naturally and won't settle into creases. One added tip is to apply the blush slightly higher on the cheeks to create a subtle lifting effect.

Soften Your Eye Makeup

Stick to a more natural look when it comes to eye makeup. This means avoiding a stripe-like line on the lid. Instead, work the liner into the lash line for a softer finish. Use shades like soft browns, taupes, and navy, which add enough definition without looking too heavy. Brows look more natural and are more flattering when they’re fluffy instead of perfectly drawn.

For mature skin, it’s all about enhancement. You don’t need full coverage, just enough to highlight your features.
