Keith Haring’s collaboration with Converse embodies some of the ideals that Haring promoted around creativity and self-expression.
Earlier this year, Converse teased several collaborators for its Spring/Summer 2021 lineup. They had a few notable names, including Kim Jones and Comme des Garçons PLAY.
The American shoe company recently announced that they’d be collaborating with prolific and progressive artist Keith Haring for the first time.

The collaboration’s initial drop includes four footwear products, including reworked iterations of the Chuck 70, Chuck Taylor All-Star, Pro Leather, and the Run Star Hike featuring the familiar bold graphics from Haring’s renowned artworks. Each of the shoes includes muted “White/Black” or “White/Blue” colorways.
In a celebration of creativity and self-expression, the new collection also sees a customizable edition of the Chuck 70 sneakers. Fans will be able to personalize their kick via the Converse By You platform, with four distinct canvas prints to choose from.
There are some other customizable elements to the sneaker, like the sneaker’s ankle patch, midsole, laces, foxing, pinstripes, and lining. On top of the four exciting, footwear releases the line is also releasing four apparel items.

The Pennsylvania-born artist’s work epitomized creativity as a driving force with the potential to change the world. Through his self-expression, acting as a vessel for, Haring supported oppressed communities with his whimsical, free-spirited art.
Today his message of accessibility and self-expression continues through his lasting impact and the artist’s playful characters displayed on a Converse canvas.
Haring died in 1990, but he found acclaim in the up-and-coming New York City graffiti scene while he lived. He would often assert his work onto billboards and walls along the streets.

From May 13, Haring and Converse enthusiasts can get their hand on the Keith Haring x Converse collection on Converse.com. Pricing for the footwear ranges between $65 (Chuck Taylor All-Star) and $120 (Run Star Hike Hi).
In celebration of Women’s month this year, Converse released another collaboration with “Stranger Things” actor Millie Bobby Brown, which also had the message of self-expression.
