It once sold at auction for $74,500, and Christie’s believes a fashion legend may have had a hand in it. Here’s how the famed scorpion cape went from Monaco’s royal ball to an “All’s Fair” premiere.

A cape Elizabeth Taylor famously wore decades ago has made its way to the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

At the season 2 premiere of “All’s Fair” at the Rome Film Festival on October 24, the clan’s matriarch, Kris Jenner, wore the black velvet hooded cape, which Kim Kardashian also previously wore on the show.

The cape, lined in ivory silk, with glittering scorpions across the chest, was first worn by Taylor to the late Grace Kelly’s Scorpio Ball in 1969.

Jenner wore the piece with long white gloves and a floor-length white gown. Sharing the history of the cape on her Instagram Stories, Kardashian wrote, “Fun fact about the cape my mom is wearing. It belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, and my mom now owns it and graciously let me wear it in All’s Fair.”

Kardashian also shared that the show’s co-creator, Ryan Murphy, after learning about the cape’s history, “made sure to write an episode about Allura Grant throwing her own Scorpion Ball.”

“I’m the luckiest girl to have borrowed it from my mom,” said Kardashian, who portrays divorce lawyer Allura Grant on “All’s Fair.” In the trailer for the second season of the show, fans got a glimpse of her wearing the cape.

Jenner herself confirmed the cape’s history on Instagram, calling it "an extraordinary archival piece of fashion history" and saying she feels "so blessed to have this beautiful piece from Elizabeth Taylor’s archive in my collection." \

The Scorpio Ball, in honor of Princess Grace of Monaco’s 40th birthday, was named after her zodiac sign. According to Jenner, guests had to be a Scorpio, or married to one, to be invited. Incidentally, Jenner is also a Scorpio, and so was Taylor’s then-husband, Richard Burton, who joined her at the ball.

Designed by the Rome fashion house Tiziani, the cape featured two scorpions on the chest and another hidden on the back of the hood.

According to Christie’s, which sold it in 2011 for $74,500 as part of Taylor’s personal collection, the cape may have also been something Karl Lagerfeld had a hand in, since he had been freelancing for Tiziani at the time.

Kardashian also wore something vintage to the premiere: a leopard-print Yves Saint Laurent fall 1986 haute couture gown with a corset bodice and a matching shawl, styled by Law Roach Jenner complimented the look, describing her daughter as “STUNNING,” in the comments of Kardashian’s Instagram post.

Fans can see more of the cape when “All’s Fair” season 2 premieres on Hulu on November 4 with three new episodes. Here's the trailer where you can catch a glimpse of Kardashian wearing the cape.
