Yara Shahidi's New Colorful Adidas Collaboration Is An Ode To Her Iranian & African-American Heritage

The "Grown-ish" star announced her bold new collection with Adidas, exploring ways to honor the past and the future of "our heritage.

Over the years, twenty-one-year-old Yara Shahidi has established herself as a formidable force. From starring in and executive producing "Black-ish" spinoff, "Grown-ish" and using her voice to speak on pertinent issues among people of color. Not to mention that in 2018, the multi-hyphenate enrolled to study at Harvard, where she continues to study amidst owning a production company.

Now on a mission to add another title to the illustrious bouquet of achievements, Shahidi has released a capsule collection with Adidas. Recently the star sported her design on the red carpet for the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Shahidi's colorful collection with Adidas includes a five-pieces that celebrate her Black and Iranian heritage. The ReCreation Heritage Line features two colorful jackets and coordinates track pants boldly printed and a pair of classic Superstar sneakers.

In a teaser video she posted on her Instagram feed, a sun-kissed Shahidi wore the mustard-yellow track jacket with a blue-collar, which she styled with a white tank top. She captioned the short clip, "Y'all knew this was coming ? #collab."

After teasing the collection on her Instagram, the brand made the collab official with a statement announcing the ReCreation Heritage line.

In an interview with "Harpers Bazaar," the actor revealed some of the thought processes that went into the design. She says that she instinctively thought about how they could pay homage to the past to honor the future.

And despite the specificity to her own lived experience, Shahidi's goal was to explore "how we re-create our heritage," she said.

"I'm constantly figuring out what it means to me to be Black and Iranian—it's ever-changing."

The star took it upon herself to try the fruits of her labor at the recent MTV Movie & TV Awards. With the genius of celebrity stylist Jason Bolden, they paired the Adidas sportswear pieces with a yellow bustier and pointed stilettos. She completed the look with vintage Cartier diamonds.
