In the hours after the young girl's death was announced, one early account appeared to settle what happened. But official records have since complicated that picture, and the timeline of her final moments now looks notably different.

The Lowe family has been grieving an unimaginable loss, but days after 13-year-old Fiona Lowe's passing, new official details are beginning to fill in what happened during her final hours. And one of those details appears to clarify an important part of the timeline that was initially reported differently.

Chad Lowe and his wife, Producer Kim Painter, announced their daughter's death on September 29, 2026, remembering Fiona as a bright and deeply loved teenager whose passion for dance was a defining part of her young life.

"We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance," the family said in a statement, according to Page Six. "She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives." The family described Fiona's passing as "devastating" and asked for "prayers and privacy at this time."

They concluded their statement by encouraging anyone struggling with their mental health to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Fiona was the middle of Chad and Kim's three daughters. Kim and Chad are also parents to Mabel, who is 17, and Nixie, who is ten.

In the days following the tragedy, those who knew Fiona also began sharing glimpses of the person she was away from her famous family. A source described the teen as "sweet, quiet and kind.”

"She was always kind to other students. Many of her friends are out today grieving," the source continued. Another insider similarly described Fiona as "a very well-liked student" who "had a lot of friends." Her middle school community was also informed of the death on Tuesday morning.

"It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students," an email from the principal reportedly read without identifying Fiona by name. "Our sincere condolences go out to the student's family, friends and teachers." Counselors were made available for students and staff who needed emotional support.

Chad Lowe Often Spoke About the 'Privilege' of Raising His Daughters

Fiona's death is especially heartbreaking in light of how openly Chad had spoken about fatherhood and the important place his three daughters held in his life. During a December 2025 appearance on the "Still Here Hollywood" podcast, the "Life Goes On" actor reflected on what being a "girl dad" had taught him.

"It's so interesting because always wanting to have my own experiences and not live in the shadow or follow in the footsteps of somebody, I get the experience of being a girl dad, which is such a privilege," he said. Chad explained that raising daughters had changed the way he saw issues affecting women.

"And I feel bad for anyone who's a parent … I feel like having daughters is such an incredible privilege because it takes what I have known intellectually about women and all the equality and the glass ceiling that's there, and how it's a misogynistic world in many ways," he said.

"And now it's taken what I've known, and it's put it in my heart because I now have three daughters. So, I look at the world from, really, their perspective." As Page Six previously detailed in a look back at Chad's comments about fatherhood, his social media is similarly filled with proud moments involving his girls.

For Fiona's birthday in November 2025, Chad marked the milestone of his middle daughter officially becoming a teenager. "Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!" he wrote in the birthday tribute.

That message carries an especially poignant weight now. During a 2024 family ski trip, Chad also wrote that he didn't "take one moment of it for granted," adding the hashtags "blessed" and "girl dad."

The Family Had Already Faced a Devastating Loss

The tragedy involving Fiona comes after an exceptionally difficult period for Chad, Kim, and their children. Their family home was destroyed in the January 2025 Pacific Palisades Fire, taking with it the place where the three sisters had grown up. Weeks later, Chad shared the emotional moment when his daughters returned to see what remained.

"Almost a month after we evacuated our [sic] girls finally got to go back to see what's left of their home," he wrote in an Instagram post documenting the family's return. "The way they've handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable," he continued.

"I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life's greatest joy and privilege." The family's experience following the fire was also highlighted in an earlier report about the difficult period they had endured.

But now, as the family mourns Fiona, newly released information has provided a clearer picture of what happened during the early hours of September 29.

New Records Reveal Where Fiona Was Pronounced Dead

An initial report from TMZ stated that authorities were called to the Lowe family home at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. That outlet initially reported that Fiona had died at the residence. However, new information from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner establishes a different location for where her death was ultimately pronounced.

Medical examiner records state that Fiona died at a hospital on Tuesday, September 29, rather than being pronounced dead at the family home. Additional information subsequently obtained by People provided the precise time: Fiona was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. at a local hospital.

Taken together, the reported timeline shows authorities being called to the home at approximately 12:10 a.m., followed by Fiona being pronounced dead at the hospital just over an hour later. The available reports do not provide further details about what occurred during that period.

Medical Examiner Reveals Fiona's Manner of Death

The medical examiner's office subsequently disclosed another deeply painful development. On Thursday, October 1, Fiona's manner of death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner's statement reported by People. The case had previously remained listed as open while officials completed their review.

No additional circumstances surrounding Fiona's death were provided in the reports shared by the family or medical examiner. Chad's representatives also did not respond to Page Six's request for comment regarding the newly released information.

The teenager's grandfather, Charles "Chuck" Lowe, was among the relatives to publicly mourn Fiona after her death. He shared a photograph of his granddaughter and wrote simply, "Rest in peace." Chad, 58, is the younger brother of Actor Rob Lowe and was previously married to Actress Hilary Swank from January 1997 until November 2007. He and Kim have been married for 16 years.

For now, the family's own words remain perhaps the clearest reflection of their grief: Fiona was "the light” of their lives.

As further details surrounding her final hours have emerged, her loved ones have continued asking for the privacy and prayers they requested from the beginning.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chad and Kim, Mabel, Nixie, the entire Lowe family, all their loved ones, friends, community, and all who knew and loved Fiona, as they continue to mourn such a significant loss. RIP, dear Fiona.
